Lie #5: ‘There is no single truth. Everyone needs to explore and find a truth that works for them.’

This one’s a real hot potato. And it’s not something you hear so much from ancient religious institutions… rather, it’s simply the ‘politically correct’ way to talk about spirituality these days.

It tends to be expressed something like this: ‘You’ve got your truth, and I’ve got my truth. You find a faith that works for you, and I’ll find a faith that works for me.’

Well here’s my question:

How many conflicting versions of the truth can actually be true?

I’m not going to use this space to promote an agenda today — or to push any specific claim of Ultimate Truth. I’m just going to highlight a very simple, logical reality that each of us, in our search for Truth, must recognize. Pardon me if I offend you, but I’m going to put it bluntly.

It’s impossible for all religions to be true.

In other words, if Islam is essentially true, then Buddhism, Hinduism and Christianity are not. If Buddhism is essentially true, then Islam, Christianity and Hinduism are not. And so on.

How can I say such a thing? Because if you *really* study these religions, it will become clear that each makes bold, fundamental assertions about reality that are not compatible with the others.

For example, Hinduism states that divinity is present in everything. Christianity, Judaism and Islam all assert that God is distinctly separate from what he has created. The implications of these different views run very deep, and they are fundamentally incompatible. It’s logically impossible for both views to be true.

So why bring this up, anyway?

Well first I have to make a confession. I would *like* to believe that all religions could be true. I would personally *like* to believe that all paths lead to God. It feels good. It’s a kinder view of the world. It puts everyone on equal footing.

But it just doesn’t make sense.

Truth is, by nature, exclusive. There are always more wrong ways to do just about anything than right ways. There are always more wrong answers to any given question than right ones.

True?

And you know what? This really raises the stakes. It puts a real sense of urgency in our search for truth, because it shows that if we’re not careful, we can fall for a half-truth.

On the other hand, if you diligently search, seek out the facts, and your spiritual journey brings you to a place where the pieces fit in place – if everything makes logical sense and it feels right in your heart – then you should not hesitate to share your joy with others.

OK… now let’s stop right now and make something very clear:

If we possess the truth, it doesn’t give us the right to be unkind to those who disagree. It didn’t give Bin Laden the right to declare Jihad, hijack airplanes and fly them into the World Trade Center. It didn’t give so-called ‘Christians’ the right to kill people in the Crusades. It doesn’t give us the right to be disrespectful or violent.

What it does give us is the right – and the confidence – to go out into the marketplace of ideas and *see* if our Truth stands up to hard scrutiny.

C.S. Lewis was talking about this very thing when he said, ‘You don’t need to defend a Lion. You just need to let him out of his cage.’

If you really do have the truth, then you have nothing to fear. You don’t need to burn books or censor speech. Truth is its own best defense.

In our modern, sophisticated culture, spirituality gets locked up in a cage. It’s a taboo subject. Discussions about religion are not considered ‘polite conversation.’ So nobody talks about it.

The result? People don’t talk to each other. They live in fear and isolation.

Some folks harbor ideas and notions that make absolutely no sense, but because those ideas are never brought out into the light of day, they’re never questioned.

Others have great wisdom, but they’re afraid to share it with others!

How sad.

In your search for the truth, then, know that you’re not just looking for something that sounds good. As with any other kind of truth, it may *not* feel good all the time. Know that you’re looking for something definite, something that will by nature make some pretty bold claims.

Also, please understand that if someone tells you they possess the truth, they’re not being arrogant. Fact is, they’re either sadly deceived or else they’re right. You can’t put someone down for being deceived, and you can’t fault someone for being right!

The real challenge is to discern the difference.

Tomorrow I’m going to cover Lie #6:

‘The Bible is out of date, inaccurate and over-rated. People in the 21st century are way too smart for that.’

Thanks for sticking with me.

    When we boil down all these questions and positions we’re left with the core question of how do we know anything, or how do we know that we know. If there is an ultimate Truth, can it be fully known by the senses and by the mind? If not, then how can it be known?

    If there is an ultimate all-encompassing Truth/Reality/God, then it’s reasonable to say that we are all a part of that Reality, and it is therefore our nature/destiny/calling to find/know/be that Truth. We are drawn to it. It is our birthright and inheritance. Science and religion exist to facilitate our journey to Truth.

    So which religion is right? Which pathway has the inside track on the ultimate Truth? One can bring the mind and the intellect to bear on this question, but are these the right tools for the job?

    If we see, sense and are able to know a self-existent, objective Reality/Truth, then logic and reason are the best tools to use and science seems the appropriate pathway. If we only experience our own perceptions and interpretations of Reality, and if ultimate Truth is beyond the reach of mind, then Truth is best explored subjectively via the tools of consciousness/spirituality, using science as a useful yet inherently limited tool.

    If Truth/Reality is subjective, then the only way to know it is to become it. The fact that we exist is a powerful demonstration that Truth is supportive of life. To become Truth, then, is to support, love and revere life in all its expressions. Some would argue that this is the very core of most major religions.

    Jesus taught salvation – to accept the spirit of God immanent (Holy Spirit) and be transformed into a vehicle for supporting life in this world. Buddha taught enlightenment – to transcend the lesser self to realize the higher Self, becoming a vehicle to support life. While any religion may contain error, it may also contain a sufficient measure of truth to serve as a viable path to truth. Perhaps the ultimate Truth transcends all religion. To subjectively experience the powerful touch of Divinity transcends all religion, science and positionality.

    If the above is true, then let the Christian be the best Christian he can be: surrender to God all in his life, love and become a vehicle for love, and pray for all the world to know God. Let the Buddhist continuously surrender the personal self to the Self and make his life a meditation and a prayer. Let the scientist practice his art with excellence, compassion and intellectual humility for the betterment of all mankind.

      The right religion is that which does not cling to dogmas (especially when those dogmas are proven to be false) and recognise that we are all part of a whole. The religion that uphold the fact that we human beings are not seperate from the ultimate reality and that we can consciously manifest this reality in our own lives, direct us to be responsible for our actions and inactions, and ultimately lead us to the truth of life – this is the right religion. Life at each moment permeates the entire universe and is revealed in all phenomena. Help stop the delusion that is plaguing mankind through false teachings.

    Here is the Executive summary;

    “What part of INFINITY don’t you all understand?”

    All comments have boundaries, all thoughts have boundaries, all actions have boundaries, all images have boundaries.

    Of all the subsets of INFINITY, LOVE is the most powerful. Of the Subset LOVE, DIVINE MOTHERs’ MATERNAL LOVE is the most powerful. INFINITY is beyond gender, but the way back to INFINITY has many paths. The wise seek Grace and Blind Divine Maternal LOVE, not justice. This was and is the body language of Jesus on the Cross (taking non-Christian Thieves who denied him to his face with him to INFINITY) , Buddha renouncing riches and his Kingdom to help the poor, and Adi Shankaracarya, the modern father of Hinduism, traveling the length of India setting on the monastics that keep the teachings of the Vedas pure for future generations showing the wisdom of selfless actions, LOVE and non-attachment to the physical.

    Books, philosophies and techniques are just the trappings on the way back to rejoin ourselves to INFINITY. Re-Legion, Latin roots mean to rejoin one’s self to the Divine, INFINITY.

      Don’t let yourselves be fooled by the antichrist, which include Buddhism and Hinduism. Even the antichrist can make you feel “love”. Even satanists display good works, compassoin, and love. This is all deception designed to lead souls away from Christ.

  3. Albert J. says:

    Coherency and Chaos are uncertainty pairs due to Duality. They exist only to define each other. They are both sunsets of reality. Male and Female also only exist to define creation in the first place. God has no gender and logic is a subset of Infinity/God. Thus what you seek, to pigeon hole God into some coherency logical corner is not possible.

    God is the cause of the Uncertainty Principle (Duality) in order to make sub sets of reality-harmonic Creation, so that you may know reality and experience it.

    If I have a white piece of paper, and you had never seen an arrow, and I told you to find the white arrow on the blank white paper, you will have no idea what I’m describing or asking you to do. If however, I apply the FEDex Logo to that blank white paper, then I show you where the white arrow is between the e and the x, you now have an idea what the arrow is and where to look for it. If I then fade the Logo in and out until if becomes fainter, and fainter, until it disappears; then you can see the white arrow and the blank paper are One with each other. [The father and I are ONE] This is what God has done for you by giving you a human form, created in the IMAGE (reflection) of God.

    But Coherency and logic have duality Uncertainty pairs to define them. Beyond those pairs and the laws that govern them (Aka Science, Laws of nature, etc.)lies Infinity, Truth, Unchanging. You are confused trying to make the subset unto the whole, because you are using a limited computer, your brain. Your brain calculates and frames creation into a movie at a maximum speed of 5 Microseconds per frame. Of the more than 1 Billion bits of information your sensory inputs receive every second, you can maybe process 1000. You have to go beyond these limitations, and experience for your self the infinite capacity of God. You will do this, when you can control your mind and turn it off. Stop thinking. Then you will come to understand that you personally are not the cause or the creator of thoughts. If you were the center of the universe and the source of your thoughts, then like any transmitter, you could turn off your thoughts at any time at will. Go ahead, try not thinking for 5 minutes! LOL.

    Once you give up your delusion that you personally are the center of the Universe, and you find the real source of thoughts, you are on the correct pathway. The rest will happen by natural laws.

    Good luck on the paths, Albert J.:)

      Re: “Coherency and Chaos are uncertainty pairs due to Duality. They exist only to define each other.”

      A duality does appear to exist in the spiritual sense. This is often a source of discussion when people ask, “Why did God allow …?”; Or some will say that, since God creted everything, then he must have created evil.

      I don’t believe god created evil but is the source of all that is good. While a duality of good and evil is perceived they are not inter-dependent. So, I will throw this out for discussion:

      When you turn on a light at night, does that action create the darkness that is perceived where the light isn’t shining? When there was no light, what created the darkness that existed before? Or, did darkness exist before the light was turned on? What is darkness? Can it be measured? Or is it only light that can be measured? Isn’t total darkness actually a total absence of light? The inside of a box can be completely filled with intense light, thus eliminating all darkness and the perceived duality. If they define each other, where is the darkness that would have to be present in order to define the light?

      Coherency and chaos do not define each other. Coherency cannot be defined by a relative measure of an absence of chaos. What would be measured? Therefore, I propose that this statement, “Coherency and Chaos are uncertainty pairs due to Duality. They exist only to define each other.” is false.

      If that statement was true, then evil would exist in order to define good – which is absolutely false. When time ends, so will evil. Good will continue to exist after evil is finished. Good will continue to define itself, as it does now.

    • Jim Brechtel says:

      btw – I am not entirely disagreeing with what you have said. The concern is with regard to statements that imply an inter-dependent duality when it comes to good and evil. This is too often a source of misunderstanding.

  4. Albert J. says:

    PS, another hint for you about coherency and logic.

    Maternal Love (and hence Divine Maternal Love, one important component of Love)is not Coherent or logical. It is blind and irrational (as observed and documented in science journals lately).

    Thank God, that God is not tied down by Coherency and Logic!

    You can have the Logical ‘JUSTICE’ subset of God, if you like. But the wise seek the irrationality of Divine Maternal Grace, not Justice. Justice is action/reaction. Grace is blind to actions and thus ‘irrational’ and ‘illogical’.

    And thank God for Grace! LOL. Glass houses and all that stuff!

    The question is not which one is true, coherency/logic or chaos/irrationality. Any more than there should be a question about which is correct, science or religion. The correct question is which one is the dominant of the Uncertainty twins? Just as Light is dominant to darkness. Coherency wins so far according to science (University of Princeton Cosmic Convergence experiments, random numbers form coherency when dominated by human consciousness). This proves that since coherency is the dominant twin, it’s then impossible for creation to have happened ‘from random chaos’ (because coherency always dominates chaos like light dominates darkness), and thus this proves that God is; because rules rule (rules are dominate to chaos), and there has to be a planner to a plan, an architect to creation and an arbiter to maintain the rules. 5. Albert J says:

    It’s best to go back to the King James version, because too many changes have been made since then.

    Luke 11:33 to 36;
    No man, when he hath lighted a candle, putteth it in a secret place, neither under a bushel, but on a candlestick, that they which come in may see the light. The light of the body is the eye: therefore when thine eye is single, thy whole body also is full of light; but when thine eye is evil, thy body also is full of darkness. Take heed therefore that the light which is in thee be not darkness. If thy whole body therefore be full of light, having no part dark, the whole shall be full of light, as when the bright shining of a candle doth give thee light.

    This is refering to quantum physics and the reverse engineering from duality and the Uncertainty Principle, back to singularity, Divine Light. Currently, scientists are puzzled why after the Big Bang, matter and anti matter didn’t cancel each other out? The reason is free will, and the slight deviation each one of us made to cause the delusion of seperation, which when time is added in, causes duality because of objectification. By reversing the energy flow from outwards and polarization to inwards back to nuetrality at the single eye, the pituitary gland in the brain where duality calculations first occur, then we loose the gravity and relativity that causes the delusion of separation, and we then identify not with the body or mind; but with the infinite only begotten child of God. The Divine light within each of us, which makes up the entire Cosmos. Understanding the reality of who we really are, we loose all fear, and are free from the bondage of time and space. Fear is our jailer. Faith and scientific affirmation of our Faith is our Liberator.

    Matthew 6:21 to 27;
    For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also. The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light. But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness! No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon. Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment? Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they? Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature?

    What can we add? The last sentence. We can only witness, appreciate, and through service to others, give thanks back for the opportunity. For only the human body is created in the whole and exact image of God, and thus only in this body can we know and understand God.

    Genesis 9:6;

    …. for in the image of God made he man.

    Genesis 1:27;

    So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created them.
